Ruminant Replications Oppose Odd Terse Tergiversations

A friend amused me with a script
"Dog Diary vs Cat Diary".
A modern urban legend,
Of pets and minds, of intent inferred--
it was cute and cuddly and swell.

So, inquisitor that I am,
I look for fonts of wisdom --
Typed as author's name, no less,
For such light might guide my path,
To find other writings of equal worth.

I found web-site after web-site,
All posting variants of this text,
Most variants being the same
As one of two principal forms.

None of them mentioned an author,
Nor did they mention a prior source --
Though 1 site boasted 6 million hits -
There is a moral here, about theft,
Of how people will more quickly steal
Texts not watched over by name,
And place it in their blog or email,
As if they had made such texts,
And merit renown for some wit,
When all they did was copy it.

Modesty would be suggestive,
Provocative by what it conceals,
Leaving to the imagination
The space it needs to roam.
A link is suggestive, just so,
Exposing no more than needed
To tease you into a response.
