The Palin Threat: An explanation of high risk for football fans
The Superbowl is a few weeks away. Your team has a grizzled quarterback who
managed to squeak narrowly through the season to take the league
championship.
The opposing team has a rookie quarterback who has handily defeated all the
veteran teams in his own league. He looks quite formidable - and his team is
projected to beat yours in the Superbowl.
Moreover, your team has a personnel problem. It needs to fill a critical
hole in the roster - the back-up quarterback position.
So, would you choose a virtually unknown star quarterback from a small state
college to fill this hole in your roster - or not? Your press agents say
this unknown gives great interviews and is sure to be a smash celebrity with
the fans. But the question is, in the big game, can this unknown play
effectively in the pros - or not?
Well, that's the gamble John McCain chose - he decided to risk the fate of
the national team on an unknown small college quarterback. Do you think that
was wise or not?
