Gentles--

I read with interest the news summary put on by the group in my absence
last Sunday and suggest we institutionalize the practice (instead of, ah,
institutionalizing me...).  I.e., in the time set aside for news at the
next AWARE meeting (and subsequent meetings) everyone will be encouraged
to contribute notice of a significant event of the week past.

3. News of the week (Carl absent):

- US has announced willingness to use 1st strike nuclear weapons.

- UN weapons inspector’s report has only been out 3 days and the US
already says it’s no good.  Most of Security Council still hasn’t seen it
yet.

- US is assumed to be behind this 2nd Venezuelan coup attempt.

- Democracy Now played answering machine messages from all over the
country describing local anti-war activities Dec. 10.  Very heartening.

- News-Gazette covered Dec. 10 activities and left the impression that
there is no local anti-war activism.  Several folks called or wrote the
paper.

- Kissinger has resigned from his new post investigating Sept. 11
intelligence failures.

- Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott has exposed himself again as a racist.

- ACLU announced its membership growing, including a new constituency:
conservatives...
