[Peace-discuss] Lowes Parking for public discussion on War

 It is my gut feeling that at least 80% of Lowes’ customers are pro-war. The manager knows that his job depends on happy customers. I am sure that he has heard from just about every pro-war person who knows that we park there. All he needs is one or two contractors, who spend the big $, to complain. If he is going to lose protestors’ business, I’m sure he would rather it be ours than the others’.
It is my gut feeling that Lowes’ top management is probably 90+% pro-war.

I am as anti-war as you can get, but if I was manager of Lowes I would react the same way as their manager has, keeping my job would come first. In any event, he will do whatever his bosses tell him to, regardless of his personal feelings. 

We would probably find the most open and sympathetic owners/management at a book store like Borders. I think we can expect the rest to be quite conservative and pro-war. But trust me, none of them want to touch this issue with a 10-ft. pole unless forced into it by a customer. And if they do have to deal with it, they will go in the direction that they think will piss off as few of their customers as possible.

district manager and the manager's telephone number which he at first refused 
to give but when I asked several times he finally indicated that office of 
Lowe's district manager was at the Bloomington Illinois store. Although, Mr. 
Watkins expressed his opinion that demonstrating on either side was ok with 
him he as the Champaign Illinois Lowe's Store manager did not want either 
side "PRO-WAR" or "ANTI-WAR" using his virtually empty parking lot as a 
parking area for participants any public demonstration. I think that this 
attitude, which verifies that Lowes will not facilitate urgrnt and esential 
public discussion regarding the war by either PRO-WAR or ANTI-WAR American 
citizens by permitting parking in their usually 1/2 empty parking lot on 
Prospect avenue in Champaign Illinois during public demosntrations needs to 
be highlighted at the local, regional, national, and international level. As 
a national company I believe that Lowes could facilitate public discussion 
without its business being affected. If this is the local Champaign Illinois 
store manager's policy to hinder public discussion of a criticial issue we 
must ask if this is Lowe's national policy? Please post and distribute this 
letter to all web sites and please send this email around the nation and 
world to all of your email contacts.
