10 Things to do to Protest the War on Iraq

1. Call or Fax the White House and Congress regularly about your outrage.
They are counting on the war to make those who disagree shut up. Refuse to
be quiet, and keep reminding them of the unnecessary carnage they are
responsible for, as well as demanding accountability for the wrongs being
done to US citizens and foreign nationals and visitors in the name of
Homeland Security and the many other outrageous changes promoted by the Bush
camp (Artic Drilling, shameful tax breaks for the rich). There is a FREE
number for contacting Senators and House members to express your opinions on
the war: 1-800-839-5276. For contacting George W. Bush - White House 1600
Pennsylvania Ave. Washington, DC 20500 202-456-1111 or 1-202-456-2580
President at whitehouse.gov . Find out how to contact your US Senator at
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm and your
U.S. Representative http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW.html

A CITIZENS' DECLARATION

As a US-led invasion of Iraq begins, we, the undersigned citizens of many
countries, reaffirm our commitment to addressing international conflicts
through the rule of law and the United Nations.

By joining together across countries and continents, we have emerged as a
new force for peace. As we grieve for the victims of this war, we pledge to
redouble our efforts to put an end to the Bush Administration's doctrine of
pre-emptive attack and the reckless use of military power.

Stop Paying For War!

What Is War Tax Resistance?

It is impossible to conduct modern warfare without soldiers and weapons. But
before governments can buy weapons and hire soldiers, they must first raise
the necessary money through taxes or borrowing. War tax resistance is
refusing to pay some or all of those federal taxes that contribute to
military spending.

Because there is no tax that goes only to the military, war taxes generally
mean individual federal income taxes and as well as some excise taxes (e.g.,
the 3% federal excise tax on telephone service). Though a case can be made
to include Social Security, state, and local taxes, these are generally not
considered “war taxes.”

“The two decisive powers of the government with respect to war are the power
to conscript and the power to tax.”
—A.J. Muste

Who will verify discoveries in Iraqi arsenals?

Tom Hayden

Anti-War Commentary

1. I live in Los Angeles where it is widely known, and officially
acknowledged, that the police routinely plant evidence like weapons and
drugs on arrested suspects. Am I wrong to suspect the same thing might
happen in Iraq? The Pentagon public relations machinery is prioritizing the
search for chemical and biological weapons in order to prove the case they
failed to make at the United Nations before the war. So it is urgent to call
for the media to ask more critical questions now and when the "discovery" is
announced. Here is some background:

Calendar of Demonstrations for Peace

Many peace activists feel isolated because peace activities are not reported
in mainstream media. In one effort to help to correct this, the WRL has set
up this page to post events from around the country that have happened, will
happen, or are happening on a continuous basis. If you know of such an
event, please submit the form at the bottom of this page, or call
(212-228-0450), fax (212-228-6193), e-mail (nowar at warresisters.org) us.

Note, these events are listed as a public service and are not necessarily
endorsed by the War Resisters League.
