Salome Chasnoff, independent media artist, educator, and director of
Beyondmedia Education, will be presenting "Beyondmedia: Alternative Media
with a Mission", Sunday, November 9 at 7pm in the South Rec Room of Allen
Hall, 1005 W. Gregory, Urbana.

Beyondmedia Education is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating
alternative media for positive social change. They facilitate media access
with community based organizations through the collaborative production of
videos and other media arts, outreach campaigns, and media workshops. They
have partnered with over 60 grassroots organizations since 1990 to develop a
wide range of educational and advocacy materials and workshops.

Salome Chasnoff is an independent media artist and educator whose work is
devoted to creating alternative images to the dominant culture's
representation of women, and expanding media access for women and girls.
Since 1990, she has worked with over 50 grassroots organizations on video
and other media projects. She co-founded Women's International Information
Project (WiiP) in 1997 to contradict the disenfranchisement of women in
global media and electronic communications. Salome has an M.A. in Theatre
and Performance and a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from Northwestern
University, and she is a certified Media 100 video editor. Prior to focusing
in video, she was a theatre director and performer who used her own videos
and films in her live performances. She has taught classes in performance
theory and practice, media production and women's studies, in a wide range
of educational settings with students of all ages. Salome is Beyondmedia's
video producer, video editor, marketing and outreach director, grant writer,
and designer of promotional materials. She also writes curricula and designs
video, performance and multi-media workshops.
