Dear Friends,
March 16th marks the first-year anniversary of the killing of Rachel Corrie,
the 23-year-old peace activist run over by a bulldozer while defending
Palestinian homes in the occupied territories.
The message below comes from her mother, Cindy, and asks for local
organizations to consider signing on the bill (House Resolution 111) which
calls for a fair investigation into her death (Israel's investigation absolved
both the individual soldier and the IDF of all guilt).
At the next AWARE meeting, would someone bring this measure up for discussion?
The enclosed letters below might clarify any questions.
I appreciate your consideration on this matter.
Best regards,
Tom

US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation: March 16 National Day of Action for
Rachel CorrieDear Friends,
Pasted below is an action alert for March 16th, the anniversary of Rachel's
death, issued by the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation. This is a
"diverse coalition working for freedom from occupation and equal rights for
all by challenging U.S. policy towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
Craig and I have great respect for this group and for their efforts to address
this issue in the United States Congress. We appreciate their efforts on
behalf of HCR111 calling for an independent U.S. investigation into Rachel's
killing. We have copied here their web page calling for a national day of
action on March 16th. Note especially the call for groups to endorse a
petition that End the Occupation will deliver to every member of the House of
Representatives on March 16th calling for action on HCR111. This is very
important to our family. We welcome support from local, state, and national
groups. Please urge your organizations to sign on. Endorsements must be
received by March 14, 2004, to be included. The list of groups that have
already endorsed is included below. Please feel free to circulate this
message to all that may be of help.
We are grateful for your continuing support. Thank you.
Cindy and Craig Corrie

Subject: US CAMPAIGN | OCCUPATION END NOTES NO. 25, March 5, 2004
MARCH 16TH NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR RACHEL CORRIE
March 16, 2004 is the one year anniversary of the death of Rachel Corrie, a 23
year-old U.S. peace activist who was killed by an Israel Defense Forces
bulldozer while trying to prevent nonviolently the demolition of a Palestinian
house in the Gaza Strip. The US Campaign is calling for March 16, 2004 as a
national day of action to commemorate Rachel, the ideals for which she stood,
and the policies that she protested. We encourage you to hold vigils and
other events in Rachel's memory, to contact your members of Congress and
encourage them to sign H.Con.Res. 111, the Rachel Corrie Resolution. Ask your
group to join more than 50 groups and sign the petition in support of the
Rachel Corrie Resolution. The US Campaign will deliver the petition to every
single Congressman and woman on March 16. For more information on these
activities, and to endorse the petition go to
http://www.endtheoccupation.org/article.php?id=320.

... March 16 National Day of Action for Rachel Corrie
March 16, 2004 is the one year anniversary of the
death of Rachel Corrie. Rachel was a 23 year-old U.S. peace activist who was
killed by an Israel Defense Forces bulldozer while trying to prevent
nonviolently the demolition of a Palestinian house in the Gaza Strip on March
16, 2003.
The US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation is
calling for a national day of action on March 16 to commemorate Rachel, the
ideals for which she stood, and the policies that she protested. For more
information on Rachel, please see: http://www.rachelcorrie.org.
What You Can Do on March 16:
1) Organize a vigil to remember Rachel Corrie and let
us know about it. You can post your event to our website at:
http://endtheoccupation.org/calendar_input.php. When entering information,
select "Rachel Corrie National Day of Action" from the drop-down menu titled
"select event type".
2) Fax, call, and/or email your Member of Congress and
ask them to sign on as a cosponsor to H.Con.Res. 111, the Rachel Corrie
Resolution. This resolution calls upon the "United States government to
undertake a full, fair, and expeditious investigation into the death of Rachel
Corrie." The full action alert can be found at:
http://www.endtheoccupation.org/article.php?id=83
3) Get organizations to endorse a petition that the US
Campaign will deliver to each Member of the House of Representatives on March
16 urging the House to take action on the Rachel Corrie Resolution.
Organizational endorsements must be received by Sunday, March 14 to be
included in the petition delivered to the House of Representatives.
Petition in Support of the Rachel Corrie Resolution
(H.Con.Res. 111)

One year has passed since Rachel Corrie, a 23 year-old
American peace activist, was killed by an Israel Defense Forces (IDF)
bulldozer while trying to prevent nonviolently the demolition of a Palestinian
house in the Gaza Strip.
On the anniversary of her death, we ask you to
cosponsor House Concurrent Resolution 111, the Rachel Corrie Resolution, and
do everything within your power to facilitate the passage of this resolution.
H.Con.Res. 111 calls upon the "United States
government to undertake a full, fair, and expeditious investigation into the
death of Rachel Corrie." This investigation is necessary because of
contradictions between the results of an IDF investigation and eyewitness
accounts of her death.
Rachel Corrie was an American citizen killed by a
foreign army and a U.S. investigation is necessary to determine the
circumstances of her death and ensure that this type of incident does not
happen again.
It is important to pay our respects to those American
citizens who died to protect the values that make our country great. Rachel
Corrie died protecting the home of a family from being demolished by the army
of a foreign military occupation. In so doing, Rachel was defending such
American values as freedom, dignity, and the right to life, liberty, and the
pursuit of happiness.
