[Peace-discuss] election judging

I want to remind people that when you register more voters, you need more
people sitting at the polls. I challenge those of you who volunteer to
register people (which I would gladly help with) to register yourselves as
election judges. and yes, I am one.

I say this because other judges I have worked with have told me that the
2000 presidential election, with record turnout, was hellish. they did not
get a break all day (there are no scheduled breaks--you just eat when
there's a lag in voters), and were there very late counting ballots. if we
don't want another 2000 debacle, the best way to avoid it is to be there at
the polls ourselves, judging who can vote and who can't. plus, think about
who your typical election judges are: are these the folks that we want to be
in control of our elections?

you can find out how to register here:

I'll help! How about we see how many of lefty or
semi-lefty groups would like to work together on this?
AWARE, Greens, SisterNet, PRC, SPA, VEYA, CCHCC,
Living Wage, NOW, NAACP, Socialist Forum, ...???
