There is also the issue of collective responsibility for 
overpopulation. The argument against unfettered reproductive freedom 
is essentially the same as the argument for gun control. Our ability 
to reproduce is a loaded gun, and the shooting victim is the global 
ecosystem, which cannot sustain further population growth without 
further mass extinction, defoliation, and climate disruption. 
Everyone depends on the global ecosystem, so choices that affect it 
are matters of public policy, not individual choice.

Maybe we should give polar bears the right to vote on human energy policies ...
