[Peace-discuss] correction

I want to correct a statement I made at last night’s
meeting when we were discussing the Afghan elections:

A story by Nancy Youssef for Knight Ridder Newspapers
says, “Iraqi voters are losing interest in elections
scheduled for January and not because they are worried
about security,” (10-7-04).

The article discusses a poll of 3500 Iraqis conducted
in mid to late September by the Iraq Center for
Research & Strategic Studies. The poll showed a
decline since June in the number of Iraqis who said
they would vote in the upcoming elections from 88.8
percent to 66.8 percent. Over a third cited lack of
information about the process and over a third cited
lack of interest. Only 12.7 percent cited security
concerns. The stated margin of error for the poll is
3.4 percent.

Why is this? The article says some Iraqis blame the
“US-appointed government” and popular “frustrat[ion]”.
Seems we may have exported our electoral attitudes
along with our process - - ?
