[Peace-discuss] Defend free speech at the University of Illinois!

Dear Peace Activists,
 
Following Phil Bloomer's News-Gazette attack on my use of my private, student-fee funded e-mail account for "political" purposes, the University of Illinois has now issued me a "ticket" including a vague threat of "disciplinary action."   
 
This obviously constitutes a threat to free speech at the University, and if left standing, a dangerous precedent for this community, especially for political activists.  
 
I hope that you will all take the time to read the article Defend free speech at the University of Illinois! Hands off SEP candidate Tom Mackaman! (http://www.wsws.org/articles/2004/sep2004/mack-s06.shtml), and then write messages of protest to rtraver at uillinois.edu.  Richard Traver is the chief ethics official at the University, under whose authority the ticket has been issued.  Please send copies of your emails to editor at wsws.org.
