Janine, X is for Chi, the first letter of Christ in Greek.
So Xmas is an abbreviation for Christmas, not a denial of
Christ. On the other hand, the use of the full name
Christmas is not an endorsement that Jesus was the Messiah,
either.

Jesus pointed out rightly, in my opinion, that it was not his
name that mattered, but what believers actually did. I personally
have trouble believing that he would be concerned with the "X"
stuff.
