Hello everyone,
This afternoon I was interviewed by Lauren Petty reporter for WICD-TV
channel 15 regarding the discussion the Urbana City Council will have
at their meeting tonight regarding: Domestic Partner Registry for
City of Urbana
The news piece will be less than 5 minutes long, but please take a
moment to sent at least an e-mail to Lauren Petty lpetty at wicd.sbgnet
thanking her for her efforts in balanced reporting. She also
interviewed Joseph A. Whelan, Jr. of ward 6 who opposes rights for
same sex couples.
If you can attend the city council meeting at 7:30PM tonight at the
City Building on Vine next to Illinois/Vine intersection--you can
park for free at the Lincoln Sq mall. PLEASE DO. Your presence gives
positive energy to our coucil members who face great opposition from
people in Urbana who attend the meetings to scold them for their
progressive standing. The Mayor is also a bully who will probably
oppose recognition of LGBT folks in any domestic partner registry.
If you would like to speak you need to get there early and fill out a
form.
Danielle L. Chynoweth [D] of ward 4 will be leading the discussion
and bravely speaking on the behalf of LGBT folks in Urbana. She is an
incredible bisexual feminist, organizer, speaker and fights for our
rights daily as a city council member.
If you cannot attend the meeting at 7:30 please take a moment to send
danielle some e-mail support:
dlchynoweth at city.urbana.il.us
Also supporting and fighting for LGBT rights are: Ruth Wyman in Ward
2 rewyman at city.urbana.il.us
and Esther Patt in Ward 1 ebpatt at city.urbana.il.us
and they need to hear from you.
Again the meeting is at 7:30PM at the
City Council Chambers.
Item 11. Discussion - Domestic Partner Registry for City of Urbana [CD]
Thanks,
Lori Serb
