AWARE Minutes, May 8, 2005

1. News of Week: 57% think invasion of Iraq was bad
idea—see more on separate post.

2.  Introductions: About 20 present

3.  New Ideas:

Flier to be produced for Media Reform events on
Tuesday and Wednesday.

Children’s Art Contest over summer?

Farmer’s Market pamphlets and other ideas to put our
message across: Why Out Now? (new pamphlet to be
written). See Farmers’ Market as AWARE’s education
center.

Books are being collected at Strawberry Fields for new
Champaign County jail library.

Ideas for AWARE’s use of new IMC space—Bob Illyes will
elaborate later.

4. Working groups

P4P: 10-12 people, will move to Main Event for May 21
and rest of summer on first Saturday, consider
planning fall events around UI football.

Counter-recruitment: will plan meeting

Farmers’ market: paid for assigned space, will set up
at 7 on Saturday. Emphasize themes of “out now”,
Democracy Now!, Counter-recruitment, etc. Distribute
postcards to senators.

Public Square: Need new pieces, as always.

July 4th: will brainstorm float when get theme.

5. Past Week

Not Enough Space, Puerto Rican prisoner art exhibit at
UIUC main research library until May 31st, highly
recommended.

Upcoming Events:

Police Review Board, 5/17, 8 p.m., IDF

Media Events Tuesday and Wednesday

Fundraiser for Bill Taylor, TBA

June 4th: Potluck at Kruses’ in honor of Bob’s 80th
