Shawna was a longtime employee of Radio Maria, the
Great Impasta, and the Hideaway and a student at
Parkland and the U of I.  She was in the US. Army and
then the National Guard serving with the 1544th out of
Paris, IL.  She was killed during a mortar attack on
her barracks outside of Baghdad on Sept. 5th, 2004. 
In response to Shawna's death, the staff at Radio
maria has established this memorial fund in hopes of
creating a scholarship that can be given to someone
who might be considering military service as an avenue
for funding their continuing education.  It is our
hope that this scholarship will allow the student to
remain free of military obligation.
