Consider leaving out the 8/16/01 paragraph. There's no
obvious connection with the war-related stuff, and I think
this is a case where less would be more in terms of impact.

Also, consider putting a couple of things in bold, particularly
"Until April 4, 2004 Muqtada Sadr had urged his followers to
protest peacefully against American occupation".
