But Weisel, manifestly hypocritical as me may be, was right in that
statement. Right then, right now. HE has absolutely nothing to do with the
idea his statement conveys. I have the utmost respect for the people on this
list, but the failure to adhere to the basic tenants of logical discourse is
manifestly disappointing.
Related, I'm not sure what Amnesty's position regarding the Israeli-Lebanon
conflict has to do with the discussion. I see those reports at the same time
everyone else does. Though I must contend that from *my* reading of the 20
or so documents AI has put out on that conflict in the past few months, the
preponderance of condemnation is placed squarely in the lap of the Israeli
military, and rightly so.
I specialize in East Africa and the great lakes region, but I guess I do see
a connect to the Mideast. Those who would prefer to see no international
peacekeeping force until the Khartoum government allows it--and thus, until
Khartoum is contented with the progress of it ethnic cleansing--are on no
better an ethical foothold than those who do not see the inherent atrocities
in the Mideast. There is no moral ambiguity in the "save Darfur" movement
(whatever that is). But I do see some moral contradictions on this list
related to Darfur.
