Even when they do print a letter to the editor, the N-G always chooses the title and then leaves out part of what was written.
Urbana resolution headed to Washington
Wednesday March 29, 2006
When 2005 ended so did my subscription to The News-Gazette. Why would I want to continue to find disappointment on my doorstep every day? So when I recently learned that an important local event had gone unreported by the local paper of record I was not really surprised by this lack of coverage.

The passage of the Urbana City Council's "End the war in Iraq and bring the military home" resolution was not even mentioned by the News-Gazette.

I was present at city hall and the vigil on March 20, the third anniversary of the U.S. military invasion and occupation of Iraq. I was also present for the city council vote, and watched grass-roots democracy take place. The Urbana council voted 5-2 to pass the resolution. There were only two people in the packed council chambers to voice opposition, and well over 70 folks in favor of it.

We will now take this resolution on to Rep. Tim Johnson, and Sens. Dick Durbin and Barack Obama. In spite of The News-Gazette's inability to cover important local events, citizens must continue to report back local events the paper chooses to ignore.

JAN KRUSE

Urbana

The version printed today omitted these 2 lines:

Five council members were well informed and voted to support the resolution.

Since the city editor chose not to send a reporter to cover Urbana City Hall on March 20, the public might never have known of the event.
