I always place my ACLU membership card so that it is the first thing
one sees when I open my wallet. This is meant for protection from
the police, but I'm not sure it has really mattered for some time.
As an older, white homeowner, my experience with the police has
been uniformly positive. If I were young, unemployed and black, I
would be terrified of them. There is definitely something wrong, but
figuring out how to fix is not so easy.
