[Below is the text I submitted to the Public Square. I can still change it before I read in on-air, so feedback is appreciated. It is about Jamal Nassar's upcoming talk on "The Middle East and the United States" - karen medina]

My name is Karen Medina and I would like to invite people to a talk entitled "The Middle East and the United States" by Professor Jamal R. Nassar. Nassar is an exceptional speaker. He has received awards for his teaching at Illinois State University. His talks are very accessible, and he is a leading authority on the Middle East. He was born in Jerusalem, Palestine, and attended university in the United States. Dr. Nassar has written several books on Palestine and the effects of globalization on the developing world. Nassar has chaired a number of national and international conferences on the Middle East. He was awarded a Senior Fulbright Fellowship to teach on the West Bank. He has addressed the United Nations as an expert on the Question of Palestine. He has served as a consultant and expert witness in several highly visible court cases in the United States and Canada on the topic as well. He served as editor of Arab Studies Quarterly and continues to serve on editorial bo!
 ar!
ds of other distinguished journals on the Middle East.

Yet he speaks in very accessible terms. Nassar carefully defines the concepts and puts them in historical as well as political context. As a Catholic, he is quite capable of discussing the Biblical side as well. Many people describe his work as balanced and illuminating.
The talk, "The Middle East and the United States" is for all those interested in gaining a basic foundation and a better understanding of some of the most controversial, and often misunderstood, topics of our time.

Dr. Jamal R. Nassar is retiring as chair of Political Science at Illinois State University, and preparing to leave Illinois, so take advantage of this event. He has taught at ISU for nearly 30 years. His students praise him long after they graduate for his dedication and his commitment to challenging their minds.

Again, the event is "The Middle East and the United States"
