Congratulations on formulating a straw man argument.

well, the Champaign City Council is the way it is because of the idiotic
smoke ban, started by the same activists in Urbana. The main difference is
that Champaign businesses stood up rather than Urbana businesses who decided
to play dead and let their customer base decline.

It's my understanding the officers are recovering from their injuries and
have received a lot of support for what they have been through. That is as
it should be because the police do put their lives at risk on a daily basis.
For my part I do hope that the three officers and their families continue
receiving support as they go through the healing process. What bothers me is
the perception that showing compassion for the shooter and his family ends
up being misinterpreted as being somehow anti-police. Compassion and
forgiveness are key qualities to being able to rise above what happens when
someone causes injury or harm to another. To be bitter is to nurture a
cancer of the soul.

Police officers are public servants and there is a valid need for
accountability and for a citizens review board. As a resident of Champaign I
am fully in support of seeing such a board implemented in the community
here. There is no evidence to support that a citizen's review board will
provide a "haven for criminals" and a board that is effective can be
instrumental in building a positive relationship with the community. This
would come from the police department showing a willingness to be
accountable and to work with the public and a good citizens review board
would be willing and able to distinguish between valid complaints and
erroneous accusations.

If Champaign is lucky we can get rid of some of the deadwood that comprises
the current city council.

Marti

what about the officers that were shot? Are people going to give their
condolences to them? Oh thank you Brian for mentioning my sole dissent from
your guys plans on making the City of Urbana a haven for criminals. Give it
about hmm, 5-10 years and the backlash against the looniies on the current
council will be commence!

Today, July 11, Donnell Clemons was released from Carle Hospital, arraigned,
and is now in the county jail.

Interestingly, he is only charged with shooting Shannon Bridges and John
Murphy.
The charge of shooting Jack Armstrong was dropped.

>From what I have heard, Armstrong was shot in the leg from a ricocheting
bullet.
It looks like Armstrong was shot by one of the officers' own bullets.

Unfortunately, no one called Clemons' family to notify them of his release.

They heard it from news reporters.
