Smile! Obviously, he has not heard about Israel's Right of Return which
gives all Jews born anywhere the right to Israeli citizenship; or the old
colonial empires that gave citizenship to anyone born anywhere in the
empire.

Ron Paul: "No other wealthy, western nations grant automatic citizenship to
those who simply happen to be born within their borders to non-citizens.
These nations recognize that citizenship involves more than the physical
location of one's birth; it also involves some measure of cultural
connection and allegiance."

This is just simply wrong, and demonstrates his inexperience in the field of
international law. The idea that one attains citizenship by being born in a
nation's borders is called Jus Solis (right of the soil) in legal jargon.
Generally, countries have taken this approach or what is called Jus
Sanguinis (right of the blood). Obviously, since the United States has
always been a pluralistic nation with no single conception of ethnic
identity (such as in Germany, Italy, France etc . . ), Jus Solis was and is
the only option. The concept is rooted in common law, and as such, has
always been the practice of her majesty's empire, and continues to be the
practice in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. France
also operates with a modified form of Jus Solis, and Germany, despite
historically being a Jus Sanguinis country, has switched to a modified form
of Jus Solis. All of these countries have considerable more state
protections for their working class populations than the United States (what
Ron Paul dismissively refers to as the "Welfare State").

Wonderful that Ron Paul is against the war, and has been more principled in
his legislative record than most Democrats on the issue of war. He's still
an imbecile like the rest of his party!!
