I would say that if the Jewish community decides to sue Mr. Brumleve, I would support such an action.

However, the complaints against UPTV are misdirected.

There were calls for UPTV to stop taking any third party material (like the stuff Brumleve submitted which was produced by Rev.Ted Pike of the National Prayer Network) and take only locally produced material. "Democracy Now" is third party material, just as an example of what such a rule would mean.

There were calls to shut down UPTV altogether.

There were calls to make UPTV show only governmental and educational materials. However, the people need a place as well as the government.

And, as Durl and Marti pointed out, all these demands fail to understand UPTV and its lack of connection to the Urbana City Council and/or what the commission itself can do.

There is one other thing I don't get. When the formal proposal for word changes was made, why wasn't the statement more like the "the opinions expressed here don't necessarily express the opinions of this station nor the community." The statement they proposed was something like "the city of Urbana does not condone or endorse speech that promotes fear, hatred, prejudice or discrimination toward any group based on religion, ethnicity, race, gender or sexual orientation."
