Dear Jenifer,

For two years, I had no real idea why Nancy Pelosi took impeachment "off the table," apart from her vague claim to want to "unite" the country.
But this week I found the surprising answer in an unsurprisingly direct interview with Pelosi by my friend Katrina vanden Heuvel, the editor of The Nation
vanden Heuvel would like to invite you to try The Nation for free. Why not accept her invitation ?

 Dear Activist,
When I interviewed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi about her new book, Know Your Power , I asked her the question all of us have been asking for two years: how could she take impeachment "off the table"?
Her answer: she wants Democrats to control the House for many years to come, in order to stop the wealthiest 1% from "sucking the money out of the middle class" and creating a "caste system."
Many progressives disagree with Speaker Pelosi because they believe holding this administration accountable for its staggering abuse of power is essential for preserving our Constitution. They also believe the American people would reward those who defend the Constitution through a fact-based, serious impeachment effort. But at least now we understand Pelosi's long-term vision, and we can argue with her more effectively as a result.
The Nation magazine, founded in 1865, is today's most-circulated political weekly in print, and in recent months thenation.com was the destination for over a million unique visitors. Many progressives knew where to quickly find the history-making news and analysis, unfettered.

The Nation is the independent magazine that will be covering the new potential in this critical election year--from your perspective. And we'll do it with the same energy that recently exposed military doctors who cheated brain-injured vets; bonanza contracts handed out to Blackwater and its mercenaries; and the media's role in the economic meltdown.
We give you the real story that the mainstream press and big media won't (or can't) because we offer award-winning reporters and writers not restricted by pressure from a corporate parent or fickle advertisers. Please join us during this historic journey by trying a free 4-issue mini-subscription. Here's what you'll be able to try for a full month, FREE:
