 New Chief got grand welcome in Danville Monday August 11, 2008

The evening of Aug. 1 was Chief Illiniwek Night at the Danville Dans
baseball game at Danville Stadium. A crowd of more than 4,000 painted the
stadium orange as they greeted Logan Ponce, Chief Illiniwek No. 37, in his
first public appearance. Logan was the guest of general managers Rick Kurth
and Jeanie Cooke who provided a wonderful evening for the new Chief.

Logan was introduced to the crowd by state Rep. Bill Black to a resounding
greeting of "Chiieeef" and then signed autographs for the first eight
innings of the game. The reception that night was overwhelming and further
proof that Chief Illiniwek is not gone. He is just on vacation and he spent
the evening of Aug. 1 with more than 4,000 friends in Danville.
