Yes, it's true. In theory the Edwards delegates could still be elected
from this area; technically, an announcement by the candidate changes
nothing; the ballot and its effects remain exactly the same.

I saw Ron Peters on Friday and he was still actively campaigning for
the slate of Edwards delegates, of which he is one. Jerry Wright,
former AFSCME staff rep for this area, is another.

In Illinois, you can vote for one candidate in the beauty contest
(where you select the candidate's actual name) and another candidate's
delegates; or you can split your delegate vote between the delegates
of one and the delegates of another. Technically, it's the delegate
vote that counts, in theory the two could go in completely different
directions. It's the beauty contest they will report on the news; it's
the delegate vote that actually matters. Of course in practice they
will tend to coincide.
