Lewis Seiler and Dan Hamburg | Rule by Fear or Rule by Law?

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/021508O.shtml

Lewis Seiler and Dan Hamburg write for The San Francisco Chronicle, "Since
9/11, and seemingly without the notice of most Americans, the federal
government has assumed the authority to institute martial law, arrest a wide
swath of dissidents (citizen and noncitizen alike), and detain people
without legal or constitutional recourse in the event of 'an emergency
influx of immigrants in the US, or to support the rapid development of new
programs.'"

And then they attempted to legitimize their lack of humanity and concern for
the rule of law and fairness with this:

Bush Appeals to Justices to Limit Disclosure of Detainee Data

Linda Greenhouse, of The New York Times, reports: "The Bush administration
asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to review an appeals court decision that
it said had created a 'serious threat to national security' by requiring the
government to supply extensive evidence supporting the classification of
more than 180 Guantanamo detainees as enemy combatants."
