[Peace-discuss] the power of hospitality

I ran across this article, about a bicycle ride
in Minneapolis/St. Paul in memory of several bicyclists
killed by cars in the last few weeks.

It further remembers the mortal injury of an activist,
Jen Futrell ("Calico") who had participated as a cook
in a mobile kitchen, the Down Home Hospitality Cafe,
in a bike caravan to the RNC last month. She was struck
by a car just last week, after returning home to Kentucky.

Why post this here? See the article's video interview with Calico:

Cooking ceased to be just a job, she says, but a
way to help the Movement. The essence of hospitality,
of the acts of hospitable people, is mutual aid,
aid given without expecting return. It's an idea
that can change the world.

I hear this in light of something Rev. Mulberry used to say,
which ran something like this:

   The way the early Christians
     resisted the Empire
   was through hospitality.

Let's remember that as we go on resisting the Empire.
