This idea of "lesser evilism" allows the Democrats to stay center-
right and not have to move to the left to actually get leftist
votes. Putting "Oh Grandpa!" out there as a reason to vote Obama is
not a reason to vote for a pro-war, pro-occupation, pro-defense
budget, anti-single payer health care, et al. candidate.
And oh yeah, those Democrats who had the clear mandate in 2006. They
totally seized that and worked to press for what the public wanted.
Oh wait. They kept funding the illegal war in Iraq and had a spine
shakier than cafeteria Jell-O. Yet, we're still asked to vote for
these schmucks because of Grandpa McCain is bad. Puh-leez. If
anybody wants to be a Democratic apologist, then just admit it rather
than trying to take some moralistic stand.
Meanwhile, I'd rather take the Malcolm X stance: "Wrong is wrong no
matter who does it or says it."

As for MM on DN!: "I have no sense of optimism...Many times we've
gotten far too giddy way too soon."...pinning hope and tacking it up
on the board and hoping that he won't keep his campaign promises?
Seriously grasping at straws "Somehow I've told myself..." -- talk
about rationalizations.
As Mort said: Some just don't get it. Some just don't get how people
might be disgusted by being expected to vote for two men who are so
antithetical to what we as peace and global justice activists advocate.
As for Bill Maher, if you've got iTunes, you can get the audio
podcast of the show a few days after the show has aired. You can
also get Olbermann and Maddow via podcast too...and even Democracy
Now (audio or video for all three of the last ones)
Smile and keep fighting,
Neil
We absolutely have to refuse to attribute any kind of permanency to
that which is simply because it is.
[angela v. davis, 1944-]
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as
you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with
too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
