[Peace-discuss] tea parties miss the boat

I had to walk a picket yesterday for my Union, otherwise I would have attended the " Tea bag " rally.

It was disturbing to read about some of the people attending having Glenn Beck signs, and the coded racism of one of the speakers. Glenn Beck is as much as a " populist " as King George was. One of his commentaries says it all, tiltled ; " Be thankful for big oil ".

Despite the racists and Glenn Beck fans, It appeared from both Wayne and Mort's reports that most of the people who attended were there because they are angry about how our supposed elected " democratic " government is defying the will of the people by giving away our tax money to the banks and spending said tax money on wars of imperial aggresion.
Mort stated also that he had favorable responses from most of the people he passed flyers to about war funding.
A Carpenter friend of mine John Reimann who lives in San Francisco, attended the rally there on Saturday and stated a similar report as the one Mort and Wayne described.
John considers himself a " Socialist " , which his definition of is nothing at all similar to what Wayne may define as a " Socialist ".

We have an historic oppurtunity at this point in time to get back control of the government from the new world corporate interests and return it to the people.
In order to accomplish this we need to have a broad coalition of people in the U.S.. People are angry and they want change !
We will not be able to have this broad coalition if we allow the ruling class and their media to divide us. We need to realize that we cannot agree on every issue, but we can find a common ground of issues that are of vital importence to the people's economic well being and citizen control of our government and elected officials.
We should not allow labels and ambiquous terms to divide us, like ; " Socialism ", Libertarian ", " Capitalism ", etc.
These are very open ended terms that mean different things to different preople.

I am obviously excluding the racists and Fascists who I have no use for and are in fact the enemy along with the corporate state.

But with most people in this country we are all in some ways like the three blind men touching and describing different parts of an elephant and argueing about what type of animal it is.

The people united can never be defeated !

I haven't tried a number of other things, either - Klan rallies, drinking Draino - that I'm pretty sure are not good ideas.

"A lot of coded racism plays into this nowadays, too: anti-welfare "queen" ideology a la Ronnie "Rayguns" Reagan, etc. On a very important institutional level this is a familiar "divide and conquer" politics of the sort that allowed the English to conquer the Native Americans, India, and so on, and still keeps the American people under the thumb of its wealthy. It distracts our righteous popular anger over the repeated bail-outs of the rich and deepening neglect of most of us - away from the authentic popular pressure that is striving heroically in the opposite direction: toward a "people's bailout" and what some are calling equity. "

  Ricky---

You weren't even present at the tea party rally and you are saying all this about what was said?

  And accusations of "coded racism"?

I must say that it doesn't advance things much when folks write statements like this based on no knowledge of the actual situation.
