Thanks for posting this, Melodye -- for me, the significant part was the recommendation to look into the defendent's (Norbit's) affect (rush to judgement, hair trigger rather than tho'tful responses, etc) and background (previous behavior and action on- and off the job, etc).

I want to say that my heart goes out to all police officers, including Norbit and Finney, as well as to the whole CU community about Kiwane's death at the hands of those who -- like Finney and Norbit -- are charged w/ serving and protecting.

Most of us are fortunate -- if we have a bad day at work, nobody dies. Not true for police officers, so it's absolutely necesary that our force is made up of only the brightest and best, those of sound mind and body who are sensitive and cool-headed, able to think rationally and act quickly and appropriately when necessary.

It's hard to think of a more demanding profession than police work... and therefore it's absolutely necessary that training, rewarding and removal from certain assignments happen on a regular and ongoing basis.

Killing an unarmed 15-yr old wasn't "accidental," in my opinion, it was negligent or worse, and there must be appropriate consequences for the protection of all of us, and for the reputation of the police force as well.

Pages 18-28  Investigating the Crime Scene: General Introduction to the Issues  (Law school doc)  worth reading 10 pages because as you read you will see what the investigators should gather---and what our independent ones may find.

They cover gun burns on clothing
