Bill Moyers interviewed Jeremy Scahill this past Friday night.

Moyers commented on the unreliability of the news reporting--

What we know for sure is that the fighting in Afghanistan is
escalating. At least 21 thousand more American troops are going in
and the number of private security contractors working for the
military there jumped 29 percent in the last three months alone. Get
this: there are now more private security contractors in Afghanistan
than there are U.S. soldiers. And as of next year, according to new
Pentagon documents, the war in Afghanistan will be costing more than
    the war in Iraq.

Scahill offered some good comments, but I found it interesting that
Scahill's concerns seemed to be
focused on the use of Mercenaries and the killing of civilians almost as
much or maybe even more
than the damned war itself. As if the displacement, killing, and other
abuses of civilians are not what
war is all about.

What should be absolutely crystal-clear to everyone by now is that
changing the President from Bush to Obama
changes nothing regarding the war and the building of empire. The
congress is still impotent to exert its Constitutional Authority, and
the Executive Branch
continues to usurp powers not granted to the Executive by the
Constitution, as expected. And the war continues to drain away the
coffers and the lifeblood of the country, while the people stand idly
by, completely impotent to do anything about it.
