Hello Friends,
This came yesterday from Barbara Dyskant, a long-time AWARE member who was present at its inception, about her 18 year old daughter, Nadine. (The family moved to upstate New York several years ago, but Barbara and Nadine have been back to visit us several times since then.) 
Barbara has given me permission to forward her email to their friends in AWARE, so I've done so. She encourages everyone to read Nadine's blog especially, and she has also included a link to her own. I'm sure she'd appreciate hearing back from those of you who remember them.

Hi Jenifer,

Sadly, Nadine was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on May 26th.
She's been in the hospital since then for chemo, is expected to be out
about 8 days, and should be back in for another chemo round.  It was a
shock, and needless to say, we didn't make it to Illinois.  If all goes
well, treatment should be about 2 years, most of it as an outpatient.

Her attitude has been AMAZING and inspiring -- sunny, with excellent
humor, alertness, and positive dealing with this awful surprise.  Our
community (homeschool and music both) has been supportive in everything
from food to errands to music in her room.

I miss seeing you and hope we can stay in touch.
