Another upcoming program from the Center for S. Asian & Middle Eastern Studies (CSAMES),
with an invitation to cosponsor it (i.e. publicize).

Sounds good to me.

Good afternoon,

I am very pleased to let you know that Mai Abdul Rahman, from the Washington
Interfaith Alliance for Middle East Peace, will be giving a community lecture
entitled "Jerusalem and the Three Abrahamic Faiths" on Thursday May 28, 2009.
This lecture is being coordinated through CSAMES and the newly-established
I-NIMS (Illinois Network on Islam and Muslim Societies). We have all of the
funding taken care of for the event, but are looking for cosponsors (through
publicity only). Please let me know if AWARE is interested in cosponsoring the
lecture! (More information on the lecture and Ms. Mai Abdul Rahman can be
found below.) We are also open to suggestions for a venue for the lecture.
The lecture would take place in the early evening, allowing community members
who work during the day to attend. Please contact me if you have any questions
or suggestions.

Best regards,
Elizabeth

"Jerusalem and the Three Abrahamic Faiths" will consider the importance of
Jerusalem to and points of understanding among Islam, Christianity, and
Judaism. The lecture will also explore the impact of the Israeli occupation on
Jerusalem.

Mai Abdul Rahman is currently a board member of the Washington Interfaith
Alliance for Middle East Peace, and the President and Founder of the American
Palestinian Women's Association. The former is an interfaith organization
composed of Christians, Jews, and Muslims committed to working and informing
individuals and groups about the need for a just peace in Palestine/Israel;
they examine the conflict from the perspective of its multiple religious
dimensions. The latter is a non-profit, non-political secular organization
established by concerned American Palestinian women in Northern Virginia,
Washington, DC, and Maryland to address social and cultural issues pertinent to
Palestinian women and their families.

Ms. Rahman has a great deal of experience speaking on interfaith issues. Since
2001, she has addressed numerous churches in the D.C. Metropolitan area in
order to promote a better understanding of Islam, Muslims, and Palestine. She
has also led and conducted several workshops at retreats, local church
conventions, universities, and at the National Cathedral's Sacred Circles.
Among other things, these workshops have explored areas of shared beliefs as
well as discussing the central principality of peace in Islam, which is rooted
in the concept of spiritual harmony with God and society.

As member and founder of the Ad Hoc Committee for Bethlehem, she recently
established and organized a joint simulcast Christmas service between Bethlehem
and the National Cathedral of Washington, DC. The joint service simulcast took
place December 20th at the National Cathedral's Bethlehem Chapel. In D.C., the
service was led by Bishop Chane, Dean Lloyd, and Cannon Peterson (Episcopal),
and Bishop Graham (Lutheran); in Bethlehem, it was conducted by Bishop Younan
(Lutheran) and Bishop Diwani (Anglican).
