A serious attempt to put the AfPak strategy in its historical context, which 
suggests that US imperialists learn little and forget a lot:

Spinney is a former military analyst for the Pentagon who currently lives on a 
sailboat in the Mediterranean, but it's McChrystal et al. who are at sea, as 
their predecessors were in Vietnam.
