I wouldn't hold one's breath.  I do not think that the Israelis view or consider their actions a blunder; nor do I think anyone else does either.  It was fairly well though out and planned - not to mention very deliberate action.  I would suggest that Israel anticipated the sorts of reactions that their actions would produce and assessed both the up and the down sides for them of such actions based on their knowledge and past experiences as to what they could expect.  If Turkey and Europe, China and Russia were to break off diplomatic relations with Israel and declare war with them - calling it a "police action" of course - and attacked Israel's territory with rockets and airpower or troops, then that would have be an unintended and unexpected consequence that would have taken Israel by surprise.  That would be considered by Israel and the rest of the world to have been a blunder on Israel's part in the sense of a miscalculation or irrational action to have attacked the boats in international waters and/or kill and detain persons on those boats.

      I hope y're right. Let's see how responsive Israel is when it comes to the other/really big issues, and where the US draws the line. No question that this was enuff of a blunder on Israel's part that there're bound to be some perks (at least temporarily) for Palestinians.

        I empathize with your frustration, Jenifer, but it just isn't so, and from an activist point of view, it's important for people to understand that it isn't so. 

        Actions of the Israeli government are not impervious to external criticism.

        Exercise: compare UN Security Council resolutions supported by the United States which are critical of Israeli government actions and subsequent actions by the Israeli government. 

        Example: This morning, the UN Security Council passed a resolution which, among other things, called on Israel to release the detainees.

        Now - later the same day - it is being reported that the Israeli government has decided to release the prisoners. 

        Is that significant? Well, first of all, of course, the prisoners have the right to go free. But secondly, the moment they are free they get to tell their story - surely a motivation for their previous continued detention. Already, lots of stories are coming out with headlines saying, "released activists dispute Israeli government account," etc.
