[Peace-discuss] Obama's charade on Iran sanctions

I think the greatest fear of the US economic elite is that the American people
will discover that there is not only a difference but a contradiction between
the interests of that elite and those of the vast majority of Americans.

Barack Obama recognized that when he wrote about Vietnam that "the biggest
casualty [sic] of that war was the bond of trust between the American people and
their government" (The Audacity of Hope). That is, we found out that US policy
was not in our interests.

And he offered himself in that book as the person to pull the wool back over
Americans' eyes - which he did, remarkably successfully, in the co-option of the
anti-war movement, to an extent I hadn't thought possible, even though I thought
it was quite clear what he was trying to do.

I quote at the beginning of each News from Neptune TV show the remark of the
late Alex Carey: "The 20th century was characterized by three developments of
great political importance: the growth of democracy, the growth of corporate
power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate
power against democracy."

Politicians have long recognized the problem: in My Struggle, Hitler says that
Germany lost WWI because its propaganda was not so highly developed as that of
the British (and the Americans). He promised that that wouldn't happen again.

The great 'contribution' of the modern US is to outdo all others in the PR
manipulation of a formally free people. --CGE
