This seems to be Super Propaganda Week over at the Times, when the usual day-in
day-out preaching of the Official Word gives way to New Revelations of the
Depravity of the Enemy, against which only Obama and Petraeus stand like the
Spartans at the Hot Gates (not the SecDef ) - and need an extra $33.5B to do it.
Greenwald's article is devastating to the propaganda structure, but he might
have added that in US planning for the Long War - the domination of energy
resources in SW Asia - Pakistan has particular importance. With 2/3 the
population of the US and a larger army, Pakistan could be a major road block to
US control of the region if it should decide to oppose it actively. That's why
the US is so concerned to "protect" Pakistan - whether Pakistanis like it or not.
In fact, they don't: more than 80% of Pakistanis see the US as the greatest
danger to their country, and they are undoubtedly right. The US will do
anything - anything - to prevent effective opposition from Pakistan to US
control of Mideast energy resources.
