Gill has had no conversion and has taken no principled stand against the war.  
See his statement on his website.

Gill insists in private correspondence that he's never changed his position. 
Publicly, he says he has "evolved" (as he obviously has).

Johnson admits he's changed his position - having voted for the invasion of 
Afghanistan and Iraq, he now says that he was wrong to do so.

Johnson now votes - consistently - to de-fund the war. What's hard to understand 
about that?
