[Peace-discuss] [sf-core] Fwd: CORRECTION: An appeal from Nathan Moore in Madison, Wisconsin

We were being told how vital it was to "save" (= continue to fund) NPR & PBS,
the Media of Liberal Reassurance. To that end the plan "to zero out funding for
CPB" had to be opposed...

But the effect and perhaps even the conscious intent of the existing system of
government funding was to promote noncommercial broadcasting that would mute
criticism of the USG, and especially of the current administration (whether
Republican or Democrat). We've all seen that happen with NPR & PBS. (David's
given some examples.)

The CPB couldn't do that without occasionally contributing to good programming,
cultural and even political (like FSRN); I'm happy when it does. But it would be
a distraction in the campaign for critical, dissident media - especially
alternative radio, now hardly extant - to center it on the promotion of the CPB,
NPR, & PBS.
