Or maybe neither. It is talking about CLASS CONFLICT AWARENESS and not class conflict itself as a phenomena. Indeed, the phenomena has been talked about in and out of the media by the general population more since 2009 than prior to 2009. It is only if one narrows one’s sample down to their own small group of progressives and ignores the mass population that there may be less or no increase in awareness during the period; but to do so would risk being arrogant and elitist. Let’s be honest about things; during reasonably good economic times prior to 2009, most Amerikans – even those in the blue collar working classes – still believed in capitalism, the Amerikan way, equality, and the non-existence or minimal existence of class conflict. Even if they did think such a thing existed in the U.S., they did not talk about it publically; whereas today, this is not the case – even the media talks about it and uses the terminology and the concepts.
