Here is a warm welcome back to our students. Have a successful school year!
Short Note

The greatest opportunity that I believe any one individual has been given in life, is the opportunity to build what does not exist and to serve his/her fellow brother or sister in a common cause. For centuries, we have done that as people and it is when we do this in a united effort, society benefits. I have had the blessing to experience this great opportunity and humbly thank you all for your support.

Currently, I am working on a major initiative that I need your help on. We have been blessed with an opportunity to bring the Summit of Hope event to Champaign September 24th. This is an event that connects ex-offenders with resources in our county. We have found that this connection piece is huge for those who are trying to hit the restart button in life. While employers will be present to present information on job opportunities, this is not a job fair. We need social agencies and employers around town to sign-up as vendors to help make this event a success. In advance, I would like to thank TIffany Gholston,Marcus King, Parkland College and the Governor's office for helping make this opportunity even possible. You can register at marcus.king at doc.illinois.gov. For more info on past events, please visit www.summitofhope.org.

Every week, I would like to highlight a website or community organization in the Champaign County community. This week, I will highlight the Champaign County Black Chamber of Commerce at www.ccblackbusiness.com for their continuous work and efforts to make Champaign County a great place for diversity. One of the obstacles in meeting our diversity goals is locating the businesses. You can use this site as a resource to identify who and where African American businesses are. If you are an African American business, please feel free to add/or update your information. The businesses on this site, also get a call once a quarter, to make sure that these businesses are still in business. As this site grows, this will be a great resource for those trying to partner with minority businesses or support minority businesses.

As always, since the time that I started this newsletter, I wanted to ensure that you were updated with what was going on in our Champaign City Council meetings. You can find the agenda, by clicking on the www.willkyles.com. You will also find:

- Learn more about the Summit of Hope 2013
- Walk Champaign
- Weekly News Updates that include street closings, fire, police, financial news
- Bids/RFPs for the City of Champaign and other government agencies
- Promotional video done by the University of Illinois

Please let me know how I can make both this communication and website relevant to you. Feel free to email me at williamkyles2 at yahoo.com, inbox me on Facebook or Twitter or simply call me at (217) 552-3625.  Have a great rest of the week!
Sincerely,
Council Member Will Kyles
