Fukushima (relating to John's remark ) wasn't "eminently predictable". It was a rare, unpredictable, disaster for the Japanese. Yes, the reactor design and its location was defective (mostly in afterthought), and the economic costs huge for the Japanese. But despite "all the radiation" released, there have been no death's or recorded severe deleterious health effects to my knowledge. Perhaps one should also look at the Public Television program on the "Wolves of Tchernobyl): The wolves seem to be thriving. The point is that low levels (I could quantify that if you wish) of nuclear radiation have not been shown to be harmful; we've been living with it for ages, and the levels from Fukushima that individuals will receive are in fact low. Lower than one gets in going to hospitals where nuclear radiation is used all the time, to good effect. Finally, I have little doubt that eventually nuclear reactors will be needed to supplant fossil fuels as energy sources, together with renewables, and therefore, there should be continued research and development of the new designs of reactors, already well developed, which in fact will eliminate the problems usually cited against nuclear waste, proliferation, etc.. At the present time, the economics of nuclear energy are, in the U.S., unfavorable. Eventually, that will change. China, India and other countries will continue to build them, because they need to, and to supplant coal as an energy source. Finally-"bis", nuclear power is good as a replacement of fossil fuels to hold back catastrophic climate change. If you all are worried about that you should not be so negative about nuclear power. 

Wasserman is ignorantly obsessed, as are too many, unfortunately, in the so-called environmental community. I find it sad, and depressing.
