I should have clarified the son is Abdulrahman Al-Awlaki.  
 The sixteen year old was either collateral damage, or eliminated after killing the Father to further terrorize.  Muslims are vilified and dehumanized for political and economic purposes by our government and have been for some time. African Americans have been vilified dehumanized historically for similar purposes, perhaps not by our government currently, but the legacy amongst many still lingers as racism. Would this have happened if he had been white, doubtful. Had he been Arab or Latino? If this was a unique, random occurance one might question the anger over the trial. However, the numbers of young men of African American heretage being killed on a daily basis with no justice when the perpetrators are white is too great to ignore. 
The injustice and killings taking place in the Magreb, by US drones are also too great to be ignored.
