I would also include one's position on gun control.

I may be wrong in my interpretation but I consider any issue that is NOT
class based as identity poitics.

Some issues fit easier than others in that category.

Spying on American citizens is not class based per se, however it is class
based in that it adversely effects Working people ( ie. anyone who is an
employee, a retired employee, or a self-employed person with no employees )
more than the employer / ruling class.

Racism is not a class issue per se but because most Working people of Color
potentialy are effected by it more than wealthy or bourgoise people of
Color, than to me that is a class issue as well.
Of course the neo-liberals have used the issue of race diversity as a smoke
screen to justify income inequality and disenfranchisement.

You are right in a sense that it was party politics, but this was a
democratic party primary and it was the one issue of gun control that was
used to drown out other issues.

Thanks for your thoughts Rohn.

I appreciate this post -- thank you.

I have a different understanding of "identity politics" -- a
collectivist response to political power based on characteristics like
race, class, gender, sexual orientation, etc. The sort of thing
described here seems more like party politics.
