The problem is that the administration is deathly afraid of imitators. I think they're convinced that they have to make an example of him, like Manning, to discourage more truth-telling.

Humankind cannot stand very much reality. The principal job of Obama et al. is to make sure Americans dwell in unreality. And they've shown that they have no hesitation in killing people to accomplish that. Al-Awlaki was killed for what he said, not what he did. And they killed his son to emphasize the point.  --CGE
