[Peace-discuss] 4th of July - AWARE float (or sink?)

I have one other thought, if we had "access" to veterens for peace, or veterins against wars, marching with them would be the most significant and appropriate thing to do especially with potential for war in Syria heating up. If anyone has contact with any of these people, groups in the area, then coordinating efforts with them would be relevant.
I agree with Ron, we should keep the message simple, and not attempt anything too elaborate at this time.

I doubt that AWARE has enough people & energy left at this point to do anything very elaborate. We could do another walking group carrying signs (as we did last year) or combine
with a group such as public workers or AFSCME or ACLU. Two themes seem appropriate at this time: the 4th Amendment & support of public workers & their unions. Any sign or message containing more than about 10-12 words will not be read or understood by bystanders.
Perhaps we could also use some of the red signs that have appeared around Lincoln Square. They are about 12" X 15" & say:
   we support
   STATE
   employees

I suggest we go for it. Question: would it be too confusing to sound both themes?

Stuart

I don't have much experience with parades and/or floats, I don't particularly like the idea of a float, perhaps because I associate it with frivolity/triviality?

I like the idea of marching as AWARE in concern for the 4th amendment which clearly is in jeapardy at this time, calling attention to it during the 4th of July parade is an opportunity to reach out to others, in the united we stand theme of supporting our constitutional
 right to privacy.

Just my thoughts
