Unusual tradition for a desert people.
Crosswise with the detailed written instructions Islam provides.

I think that Americans continue to support their governments
because

they continue to hope for "something for nothing"
(a government that can create wealth out of thin air can
give us anything we want if we stand in the right place and
posture just so)

they view the government as a sort of bureaucratic Robin Hood
that will take stuff by force from evil rich capitalists and distribute 
it to the
poor in much the manner of the five loaves and 12 fishes.

they expect the government to deliver them from evil

they think that the government is there to be their servant to
act upon their beck and call

they enjoy the feeling of power they get when they
are able to coerce the government to do what they want

they consider it their patriotic duty to serve the government

they consider the government to be the instrument of goodness in the
world and want to be a part of the glorious task
