Subject: [socialistdiscussion] WHO study - depleted Uranium

A recently published UN study alleges that there are not abnormally high rates of birth defects in Iraq, thus absolving US forces of doing anything damaging by their use of depleted uranium. The design of this study shows, once again, how who backs a scientific study is very significant because its design can reach almost any conclusion that the designers want. As the article cited shows, there have already been considerable criticisms of this study by scientific experts.

This issue is also relevant to a subject we've debated on this list several times: Whether low levels of radiation can be harmful. I think it is clear that the use of depleted uranium shells is devastating.

The World Health Organization study ranks up there with the Nobel Peace Prize's award to Obama several years ago.
