Wed. Oct. 16, 2013: Call-In Day for HR 676, Single Payer Health Care

Washington, DC. Fifteen national and state organizations, including
Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) and the All Unions
Committee for Single Payer Health Care-HR 676, have designated Wednesday,
October 16, as a call-in day to members of Congress to increase
co-sponsors for HR 676, Expanded and Improved Medicare for All.

The call in day was initiated by Progressive Democrats of America (PDA).

Passage of HR 676 would bring all medically necessary care, including
dental, drugs, and long term care, to every person in the United States.
Yet this single payer plan would bring costs under control by removing the
for-profit health insurance companies. Each person will choose their
physicians and hospitals, and there will be no deductibles and no co-pays.

Please call your member of Congress on Wednesday, October 16 to urge him
or her to sign on as a co-sponsor of HR 676.

Call the congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your
representative by name. You can find your representative by entering your
zip code at this link: http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/

HR 676 has 51 co-sponsors in the current 113th session of Congress in
addition to initial sponsor John Conyers (D-MI). That list of current
co-sponsors is here:
http://beta.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-bill/676/cosponsors?q=h.r.%20676

After you speak with your representative, you can also call one or more of
the 32 representatives listed below who were formerly co-sponsors of HR
676 and are still members of Congress. These representatives were already
convinced at an earlier time and need to be reminded of the need to sign
on to HR 676 again.

If your local union or CLC has not yet endorsed HR 676, please do so. You
can find a sample resolution here:

Every action you take helps when you're building a movement! The national
AFL-CIO Convention first endorsed HR 676 in 2009 and recently reaffirmed
its commitment to national single payer health care in two resolutions
passed at the 2013 Convention.
